Drum Floor Sander Hire

Renting A Drum Floor Sander

Using an electric powered drum floor sander machine can achieve one of the most rewarding DIY improvement tasks possible in your home.

Not everyone likes "Do It Yourself", but the results of hiring a drum floor sander are very encouraging, especially if you are renovating old original wooden floor boards.

A professional floor sander can be hired from most tool and equipment hire shops, and at reasonable prices. This is especially the case if you plan to undertake the necessary work over a weekend or bank holiday period.

One of these machines is relatively easily to use with just a small amount of preparation needed.

When sourcing a drum floor sander from your local tool hire outlet is is worth considering if you should also rent an edger machine. An edger sander does as it sounds, it sands close to the edge of skirting boards, architraves, and other pieces of wooden trim that may surround your rooms flooring. Most tool hire outlets offer a special rate if both an edger and drum floor sander machine is rented at the same time.

What Type Of Abrasive Sandpaper Do I Need?

If you are only renting a drum sander you need to purchase several sheets of abrasive paper suitable for the job in hand. If the floor you intend to sand is old and discoloured several grades of paper will be needed. You should buy sand paper in grades from course through to fine to ensure you can achieve the best result whilst hiring the machine.
Most tool hire outlets sell the required size of sandpaper on a sale or return basis. That way you will only need to pay for the quantity you use saving you money.

Edger Sander Paper:

If you are also going to use an edger machine you will need as well a good quantity of sandpaper discs to fit the machine you are using. Again you will need different grades to achieve the optimum finish.

Safety Precautions When Using A Drum Floor Sander

As with any power tool or piece of electrical equipment safety is paramount before use. It is recommended an RCD (circuit breaker) is attached to the mains cable or plug before use. Children and pets should also be supervised and if possible vacated from the room to be sanded.
A safety mask and goggles or glasses should be worn by the user of the machine as well as protective gloves when handling abrasive papers.

Prior To Using The Drum Sander

Using a hammer and nail punch, hammer and punch all the raised nails so they are below the floors surface. If this is not done you will tear the paper fitted to the machine or possibly damage its sanding drum.
